MY PORTFOLIO.

I create EXPERIENCES GROUNDED
IN empathy and strategy.

My digital product career has largely been spent in the grey area between product management and UX/UI design. After an initial introduction to human-centered design methods in 2010, I expanded my skill set to include both user experience and user interface design. As a UVA Darden-trained design thinking practitioner, my design approach is built around developing a deep understanding of both the “jobs to be done” for the customer and the value of those jobs to the business; the resulting work largely reflects the unique constraints of designing in small and scrappy startup environments. You’ll find examples of my recent work here. Full case studies are password-protected — contact me for access.

UPDATING AN AGING EXPERIENCE

MODERNIZING visual design, resolving UI issues, aND INTRODUCING UX PERSONALIZATION

Conceived and implemented a new visual design aesthetic and user interface enhancements for a portfolio of medical education and community conversation websites to resolve known user frustrations and credibility concerns among both business partners and users, introduce personalized content experiences, and create a unified cross-platform pattern library. Executed full site redesign in phased stages to both resolve critical UI concerns quickly and work within software engineering capacity constraints.

BRINGING PATIENTs TO THE FRONT

BUILDING A NEW MODEL FOR pharma websites

Developed content and designed the user interface for a working demo of a corporate pharmaceutical company website meant to communicate agency design capabilities and approach for prospective clients. Demo site was built under significant time constraint, with a requirement to deliver in one working week.

EMPOWERING ADVOCACY

bringing user focus and modern ui to nonprofit partners

Developed content and designed the user interface for a series of conceptual website mockups for advocacy organization partners meant to communicate agency design capabilities and approach for prospective clients. Mockups were developed speculatively based on input from clients that a potential redesign was desired; the resulting work product led to the agency being considered for two design engagements before both efforts were tabled by clients due to budget constraints.

MODERNIZING PHARMA CONTENT MANAGEMENT

helping companies unify messages across distributed teams

Developed content, created product branding, and designed the user interface for a working demo of an internal-facing corporate pharmaceutical company website, and also adapted the demo site UI for the agency’s first operational instance for a client. The demo was meant to communicate agency design capabilities and approach for prospective clients, and resulted in the agency being selected to migrate three sets of market communications content from static PowerPoint slides to the CMS.

deepening community engagement

Deriving data-driven insights from user journaling

Developed content and designed the user interface for a clickable prototype of a proposed extension to an existing medical education and community conversation platform (see onevoice, above). The rareJourney experience, as defined by leadership, was meant to derive insights into the psychosocial journey of rare disease patients and caregivers. Ethnographic research into the patient and caregiver experience identified two needs: One, to capture key information from the healthcare experience and, two, to journal about one’s experiences. The resulting prototype aligns the business and user needs in an experience capitalizing on existing engagement of an installed user base.

STRENGTHENING BRAND IDENTITY

CONSOLIDATING and focusing a corporate MULTI-SITE PRESENCE

Developed content and designed the user interface for a redesigned corporate website. Consolidated two multi-page corporate site instances with substantial amounts of outdated content into a single, compact experience that more clearly conveyed the organization’s unique value proposition to prospective clients. Successfully responded to leadership’s challenge to develop an initial functional version of the redesigned site within a two-day time constraint.
